Missing rugby star Levi Davis 'was £100,000 in debt to Somali mafia

When Levi Davis, from Birmingham, vanished from Spain nearly three months ago, he owed the Somali mafia around £100,000. After his party lifestyle spiralled out of control, the 24-year-old profession Rugby player got into huge debt and fled to Barcelona from Ibiza.

Having arrived at the ferry port at 7pm after an eight-hour crossing from Ibiza, where he had been on holiday with friends, Levi had only been in Barcelona for three hours.

A British investigator has been hired by Levi Davis' family to look into the disappearance. In which the detective team discovered:

Davis fled to Barcelona to escape these criminals. He had adopted a wild party lifestyle in Ibiza and was in a very delicate situation. 'The truth is he was sure the Somali mafia was chasing him and they had tried to poison him on one occasion.'

Levi Davis arranged to meet someone he'd met online, raising family fears that he may have been lured into a trap.

The British investigator reports 'We've received several anonymous pieces of information that point to the fact that Levi's disappearance is not voluntary.

'There are definitely people in both London and Barcelona who know what's happened to him and we are following the leads we have been given.'

Workers on a cruise ship alerted the authorities that someone was in the water near the port of Barcelona in distress. After the search was done, it was halted since none of the passengers or crew were missing.

'But it was two weeks later that the police realised Levi's passport was found in that same area.'

Spanish police did not report Davis missing until several days later when his passport appeared in the port." In Which Levi's mother said "could have been a missed chance."

On the day he disappeared, investigators reported that 'We know a friend sent him £30 on Bizum (A payment service that lets you transfer money from your account to another person's account without needing to know their account details.) so he could play for a place to sleep in.

'And we also know he intended to meet a person he had met on social media, a person he had never actually seen, a person who could give us very valuable information about what occurred. Unfortunately we only have a nickname to go on.

Levi's family and friends are growing increasingly worried about his safety. Police say Levi has still not used his phone or either of his two bank accounts in the nearly three months he has been missing. There have been no credible sightings of him and his passport was found by police in November, meaning he is unable to travel, rent accommodation or even book into a hotel.

The last time his phone signal was picked up was close to the city's Sants mainline train station overnight on October 29, which is just over two miles from the Old Irish Pub, which Davis visited for just 35 minutes.  He ordered a pint of Heineken and watched the Liverpool vs Leeds game on television as well as a live singer before leaving, according to the barmaid who served him.

Levi twice sent his mother video messages shortly before his disappearance - one on the ferry and another in the Old Irish Pub.

mother, Julie Davis, who broke down in tears on Good Morning Britain said: "There's always that mother's instinct.

"Just before he left, there was a message, I don't know, powers from above, that said to me, 'Give him a hug because you just don't know if this is going to be your last'..."

Missing posters all over the Catalan city appeal for information on Levi's whereabouts.

Levi's family have set up a GoFundMe page to help continue the search.

Levi's friend Richard Squire is organizing this fundraiser says "As many of you will have seen in the press and on social media, Levi Davis is missing last seen in Barcelona. He's struggled with his mental health for many years and we, his friends and family, are extremely concerned for him. Thanks to so many people sharing his image and poster, we've had some possible sightings and need to get his friends and family on the ground in Spain to walk the streets looking for him and follow up on any leads."
