"What's the best shop in wakey!?" is the famous catchphrase from Mohammad Nazir, the owner of "WAKEY WINES" (a popular off-licence in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, UK).
Mohammad 42, went viral across the internet this month after selling the popular hydration drink "PRIME" for up to £100 per bottle instead of the £1.99 recommended retail price. The video had attracted both criticism and admiration from thousands of people from around the UK and even Prime's creator and YouTube super star KSI asked his fans not to pay more then the retail price for the drink.
Prime is a ‘hydration’ drink that comes in a variety of flavours and is hugely popular due to effective online marketing. Flavours include Meta Moon, Ice Pop, Blue Raspberry, Tropical Punch, Lemon Lime, Orange and Grape.
The brand PRIME is owned by a company called Congo Brand and promoted by YouTube superstar's Logan Paul and KSI.
The two social media influencers have a combined following of over 50 million subscribers and have boosted the sales of PRIME drink so much it has seen demand outgrow supply.
The wakey wine star saw an opportunity to cash in on PRIME with its high demand by sourcing his own supplies. He started to promote the drink via the social media app Tik ToK, boasting his shop in Wakefield is the best in the city. He shouts out a catchy slogan in a Yorkshire accent "What's the best shop in Wakey!?" in which the customer would yell the reply "WAKEY WINES!" before commanding his cameraman Abdul to "come closer" then "move back." finishing off with him shouting "Bingo! Bingo!" followed by the customer responding with "Gala bingo"
Mohammad's Tik Tok following began to grow as more and more people paid a to visit Wakefield wines off-licence, amassing 500k followers and turning the shop into an unofficial landmark for the city. People have travelled from all over the UK to get a taste of Wakey Wines and the PRIME drink (as well as shelling out lots of money!).
Everything was looking up for the Wakey wines boss until Backlash online began after Mohammad posted a video selling can's of PRIME for an eye watering £100 per can. Many critics of wakey wines say he is scamming people out of hard earned money, while others admiring his entrepreneurial skills.
During the online uproar, the official TIK TOK of Wakey wines was deactivated by the platform and news articles of his criminal past began to surface. Nazir, who was jailed for eight years for dealing heroin and crack cocaine in 2015, addressed his own criminal past in a video shared online and apologised after admitting it had been the 'biggest mistake' he ever made.
Despite the outrageous prices and negative press, people still travel hundreds of miles to pay for PRIME and experience the Wakey wines hype for themselves. One woman was even filmed spending £1,200 on a box of the cans!
Mohammad has now branched out into Wakey wine merchandise and his own brand of sweets and drinks. The Wakey wines offical Tik Tok has also been reinstated."Mr Wakey wines" is even gearing up for a boxing match to raise money for charity using his new found fame and changing his life for the positive. From crime to PRIME!
